So having come out of our Christmas hibernation, what have our sections been up to this month?
– there are quite a few new faces at our Squirrel Drey – for not only have several Squirrels moved on to our Beaver Colony, but Cinnamon and her Team have been opening the taps to increase the size of the Drey to 24. This month, the Drey started back by taking on the Disney Challenge – recreating Rapunzel’s Hair with reef knots – before celebrating Chinese New Year. The night of the 59 Club Draw saw our Drey Leader Team became superheroes for the evening (aren’t they every Drey Meeting?), encouraging the Squirrels to talk about who are the heroes in their lives;
– the Beavers came back to spend an evening looking at the night sky, identifying stars to start their Space Badges. The Colony celebrated Australia Day – with Malabar playing a didgeridoo and them all losing a game of cricket – as well as spending an evening starting the Beaver Personal Challenge. It is great seeing a bigger Beaver Colony filling with some of the original Squirrels wearing a blue uniform now, it also fills some of the gaps left by the Beavers migrating to our Cub Pack. Yes, with the bigger Colony Cairo would certainly welcome adult help in running it!
– our Cub Pack started the term agreeing their Codes of Conduct, and spending a night making maps of Kettering. As the Pack has started passing on seven Cubs to the Scout Troop this year already, the Pack ran a Bring-a-Friend Night, making catapults to fire smarties everywhere – with five new members gained from this evening. To learn about our Community, we welcomed someone who is making local history – Vicky Geary, BEM, from the 5th Kettering Cub Pack, came along to tell us about what she has achieved;
– the Scouts returned for an evening of nerf guns, before working with the 2nd and 3rd Desborough Troops to complete the Level 4 Navigator Badge around Northamptonshire. The Outdoor Challenge has occupied two more meetings, when we learned about the Country Code, and how to avoid – then deal – with incidents and accidents whilst out and about doing Scouting. The five patrols spent the last meeting of the month sorting themselves out for the Cooking Contest in February .. more details next month!
February will be a more full month to report – I know all sections have prepared some quality plans for the future – so watch this space. Until then, we finish the February Report by signing off by repeating our “Thank You” again from all of our Group members for your continuing support
