Here is a quick run-down of what has been happening in the Group that you support in November:
- all our sections were out and about for the Remembrance Sunday Weekend. Our Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs joined forces to deliver one of the Group highlights – the Younger Sections’ Remembrance Weekend Sleepover at Woodcroft – and this year it was an American-themed weekend. On the Friday night, 20 Cubs took part in an Ice Hockey Tournament, before watching the Mighty Ducks. On the Saturday, the Beavers joined the Cubs and in small groups of they used the group’s trangia stoves to make copious amounts of popcorn for the evening’s film showing. Our Squirrel Drey joined the Beavers and Cubs for Saturday afternoon, spending the time making American Cheesecakes and learning about the Boston Tea Party.
- it was a massive moment of pride for all involved in the Group to see next morning the Beavers and Cubs meet up with the Scouts (sleeping separately at the Ise Valley Scout Group’s Headquarters after a Night Hike) for our Annual Group Breakfast. We then re-joined with our Squirrel Drey for the Group to attend en-masse our Remembrance Sunday Parade. Connor, Bailey and Luca read with pride the 58 names on the Parish Roll of Honour by the War Memorial, before we welcomed Lee Jones, our County Commissioner, to present the first Chief Scout Acorn Awards in the County to our Squirrels, and another 10 Chief Scouts Awards to our top achieving Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
- away from the Sleepover Weekend, our Squirrel Scouts have been working hard to complete the Get Creative and Story Time Badges by creating their own puppets – then putting on their own show. We have also started to create our own Squirrel Scout Scrapbooks.
- after a wonderfully floury evening of the Beavers designing their own pizzas to complete their Cooks Badges, the Beaver Colony spent two meetings making their own Snowman and the Grinch puppets for the Beaver Creative Badge, finishing off by producing their own puppet shows on the third meeting.
- over November, our Cub Pack completed the Cubs’ Disability Awareness badge, as well as learning about the Saints and flags of the four countries in the Union. The Cub Leader Team has set the Cubs the challenge of busily working towards their Personal Challenges away from the Pack.
- the Scout Troop started the month with an evening playing wide games at JLC. The Tuesday afterwards we were the guests of the Kettering Muslim Association visiting their Mosque – and earning the World Faiths badge. We made our own pizzas and cheese straws before holding Patrols-in-Council to help plan next term’s programme, before hosting the District Scout Quiz Compy (the leaders of the winning team host the following year’s). After our team winning it last year, the 1st Kettering coming second was the best of results all around!
