August is always a quiet month, as the leader teams needed some time to recover, work out the next term / year, and see their families again undisturbed – taking advantage of the lower numbers being around during the School holidays. Notwithstanding, all the sections of 1st Kettering Scout Group have been preparing for the term ahead:

  • after a wonderful investiture ceremony at JLC on the last meeting of last term, our Squirrel Scout Drey – and so far, the only one in Kettering – are looking forward to delivering the new Squirrel programme
  • our Beaver Colony will be starting back, welcoming a big group of new Beaver Scouts, and with Cairo stepping up to be the Beaver Scout Leader. Cairo says – if you are interested in helping her, she’d love your help!
  • regrettably our Cub Pack had to cancel a fully-organised Rafting Camp this weekend when several essential members of the Leader Team had to withdraw – Covid may not be the news headline this month, but the Pack Leader Team is still having to make difficult decisions to keep things going safely. The Pack will make it up with a packed programme this term – especially leading the Junior Sections Remembrance Weekend Camp at Woodcroft
  • the Scouts have been keeping their hand in this month – with a wonderful day spent walking on Kinder Scout Moor in Derbyshire, an afternoon’s bell boat session at the Northampton off-White Water Centre – where our paddlers held off the 3rd Desbo’s in a ¼ mile race to keep the Boot Trophy – and on a Kayak Trip, again in beautiful weather. Our programme has been published, with the Astronomers Badge, a Day Trip to London on the Remembrance Weekend, and the Digital Maker’s Badges all in there
  • and finally! “Our” Explorer Unit – the Kracken Explorer Scout Unit – is also making plans, one of which will be to maintain our links with the Troop.
