So what has our Group been up to in May?

  • the Squirrel Drey, our starter section for 4 – 6 year olds, started the month with the Frozen Badge – one of the many Squirrel Scout Challenges – before spending an evening at Twywell Hills and Dales on a Nature Walk. On the following meeting, the Squirrels made clay tiles, then finished the term with Nub’s Space Noodles Night – introducing the Squirrels to new and healthy foods – and investing our newest Squirrel – now the Group’s youngest member;
  • our Beaver Colony, the next section for 6 to 8 year olds, worked on their Adventure Challenge, learning about the Green Cross Code, then improving their agility and hearing their Beaver heartbeats as part of their Health and Fitness Challenge. We also made posters about staying healthy and made tasty wraps as a healthy snack. The last week was spent having fun outdoors with the Beavers making giant bubble loops and bubbles with Cairo’s special bubble mix … the bubbles nearly made it onto the rugby pitch!
  • our Cub Pack, the section for 8 – 10 year olds, spent a night in learning lashings to carry a water melon safely around a race course – then eating the victims! – before spending a night making key rings from paracord. The Pack started the DIY Badge – with the Cubs finding out the many uses of the tools in Baloo’s box – before finishing the term by making a racing a-frame chariots and investing two new Cubs;
  • finally – the Scout Troop, for 10 – 14 year olds, spent an evening learning how to use axes, re-filling the JLC’s Uplands Camp Site wood heap. Woodcroft became the trading floor for our next meeting during the Christian Aid week when we played the International Trading Game – learning how the world wins and loses by commerce. After a day’s delay, we finished the term with an evening’s rafting at Cransley Sailing Club, presenting eight pioneers badges, and the pleasure in investing three new Scouts, former members of our Colony and Pack.
